As ThinkProgress Green first revealed last week, the Heartland Institute, a right-wing think tank funded by the Koch brothers, Microsoft, and other top corporations, is planning to develop a “global warming curriculum” for elementary schoolchildren that presents climate science as “a major scientific controversy.”

Previous comments on Huffington Post expose Wojick as an ideological conspiracy theorist, who seems to earnestly believe that the global scientific consensus on climate change is the “global warming scare,” a “catastrophe theory with an agenda,” a “political and ideological struggle,” and perhaps even “Eco-Marxism.” He makes the baseless claim that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is an “advocacy organization,” rather than the neutral scientific body it actually is.

Wojick repeats some of the most absurd canards of climate deniers, claiming that “CO2 is not pollution, it is the global food supply,” that increased CO2 “might even be beneficial,” that there has only been warming “for one 20 year period,” and that the role of CO2 in global warming is “unknown.”

This is the ideology that the Heartland Institute hopes to bring to classrooms across America. As yet, none of the corporations supporting the think tank, including GM, Pfizer, and PepsiCo, have committed to ending their support for this anti-science group.

The right wing war against science and education shows no signs of slowing. :(

Co-author Boris Worm, said: 'Phytoplankton are a critical part of our planetary life support system.

Sonofabitch! Boris Worm made a credible statement! Finally!

McSpocky, you have to do better than that.

Science curricula should be left to scientists.

Wojick as an ideological conspiracy theorist, who seems to earnestly believe that the global scientific consensus on climate change is the “global warming scare,” a “catastrophe theory with an agenda,” a “political and ideological struggle,” and perhaps even “Eco-Marxism.”

I always love the corollary to this fallacy that AGW and climate change are manufactured so that funding will continue for climate research. Climate research has been an funded area of science for many reasons including agriculture and national defense and it was this funding that led to the discovering of our effects on the global system. That funding will continue with or without climate change. There is no financial advantage one way or the other for climate scientists.

Temperatures oscillate up and down naturally and we do not know why

Or, put another way, tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in.

This would be downright funny, if the stakes weren't so high. Wojick is a journalist, not a climate scientist. And according to a search of 22,000 academic journals, Wojick has not published any research in a peer-reviewed journal on the subject of climate change. But he's been paid by the coal industry for at least 14 years now.

I don't have words for this man (actually, I do, but I'm pretty sure they violate the CoH). I'm just happy that the news about him is public now.
