James O'Keefe, the conservative activist famous for making the ACORN "pimp" videos, is back in the news.
According to CNN:
James O'Keefe, best known for hitting the community organizing group ACORN with an undercover video sting, hoped to get CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session . . . documents show.

The plan was thwarted, CNN says, when Boudreau was tipped off. Assuming the story is accurate (some early reporting regarding an attempted caper at Sen. Mary Landrieu's office was inaccurate), it seems to me this is the latest example of a man who doesn't know when to get off-stage.

It appears Mr. O'Keefe has no interest in serious, fact based journalism.
His juvenile "gotcha stunts" do nothing to inform the public and more to broadcast his own bias and stupidity. It is unfortunate that media outlets like Fox News give any attention to this hack.
It is just a matter of time before he is relegated to second class YouTube status.

I read about this on CNN.com and was appalled. What's worse than his, as bluearcher correctly described as, juvenile antics is that there are people who think that what he does is absolutely right and will accept anything he does as perfectly legitimate journalism.
I couldn't bring myself to seed it because it has now reached the point where I can't type, read, hear, or even be aware of the name "James O'Keefe" without feeling dirtier than if I'd served as Mike Rowe's intern for 6 years without a single shower.

O'Keefe is just another little boy in a sandbox holding up his poop for all to see while shouting "hey everybody, look at me, see what I did".

I thought he was indicted and in jail. Just say no!....to stupidity O'Keefe.
The four men – O'Keefe, the two fake telephone repairman, and another alleged co-conspirator – are now "charged in a criminal complaint with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purpose of committing a felony, announced the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana." They could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

His parents need to take their little darlin on wailing expedition. If I was one of his parents, I would be out of jail months before he got out of ICU.

Why shouldn't O'Keefe act like a clown. The Teapublican party is a circus anyway. They've no policies, just a joke of a failed trickle down philosophy.
Don't let these clowns run our country. Vote this Nov. Paid for by the Committee of Sane People in America.

There was a very positive note in there. When the young woman said she was a 'moral' person and could not go through with it. Here is someone that stood up for what was right and did not allow this circus to go on. Here was a person who had the guts to say no to the lying and insidiously evil behavior of the right wing nut jobs. As such she just topped anyone and everyone at Fox News et al for integrity, morals and courage.
Obviously she took note of the damage the lies of this very odd young man did to innocent and good people in the Acorn scam they pulled.

Sure he is. And if O'Keefe had managed to go through with his juvenile stunt and make a lying edited video of Boudreau he would have praised the way O'Keefe "exposed" the Lame Stream Media.
- 16 votes
O'Keefe knows who he's playing to. The far right don't care if it's bull@!$%# they just want evidence to support there opinions. Look at Sscott here on the vine to this day he still holds up those edited fake ACORN tapes to the highest standard.

Dressing as a pimp to pull his caper is one example of his stereotypical views. Why did he think he had to dress undercover as a pimp? Had he been watching the Black exploitation moves of the 1970’s? Why is what a receptionist say representative of an entire organization? What company or organization is run by it receptionist? If this story is true, is he vying for Jerry Springer’s job?

I wonder if this stunt breaks his probation.
I hope so... That would be great.

The only problem is that most Americans know O'Keefe and only jobs for him are Fox News and anything that Breitbart owns

All I can think of is the millions of people that would of been helped by ACORN expecially in these times. I do not think he should ever see the light of day. What I find even more troubling is that the majority of the people do not know that ACORN was innocent.
That man should never be allowed to work in media again. I hope this breaks his probation. Sadly, the type of prison he will end up in is so much nicer than what the rest of the US faces. Reality bites sometimes.

Auto: BS. Moore never attempted to sexually molest any of his interviewees, nor did he use deceptive editing to try to make people say things they didn't say. O'Keefe is a crook, and obviously a sicko. He needs to get into a psychological support group with that whacko assistant DA in Michigan, the one who's been stalking and harassing a gay student at Ann Arbor.
- 12 votes
SO he is a skinnier right wing version of Michal Moore.
Will the false equivalence never cease? Moore may be a firebrand with a penchant for dialing up his opinion to 11, but he is not a serial fraud like O'Keefe and Breitbart are.

I saw the story on CNN this morning. I want to hear the excuses from those who glorified this piece of trash. I'll bet you one thing though; you won't be hearing this on tonight's Hannity. Voted this seed up, by the way. I suggest everyone do the same. Keep this seed going and expose this punk.
- 36 votes
The excuses range from:
"It's actually a reverse prank where the exposure of the prank is actually the prank itself."
"CNN should be ashamed of themselves for putting this non-news article out there."
"Abbie should have known better than to agree to show up at this house boat. That is why she is a horrible journalist and O'Keefe should get a free pass because of it."
"But Michael Moore..."
You are right though that conservative outlets are trying to bury this story. Despite the fact they've given us minute by minute updates on the life of James O'Keefe for over a year now, FOXNews, hotair.com, and biggovernment.com are strangely silent on this story.

o'keefe is not a serious journalist, so he has lost his credibility. the article here may be hearsay, but that is how it goes when you are a known criminal. it hard for me to believe that o'keefe did not get any jail time for his last caper. of course, i do understand that if he had a clean record, then that is probably why he got probation, but it wasn't like he was messing with me (average joe), but he was messing with a u.s. senator. between the acorn ruse and that, he should probably be in jail, and of course, now we have this.

i am going to assume (yes, it is an assumption) that this whole story is not a fabrication. even if only a sliver of it is true, and knowing o'keefe's past instances of investigative journalism, that is possible, then it doesn't look good for kid quick, again. since the alleged punking did not happen, then i suppose that there can not be many negative consequences, except for that which he is doing to his own reputation as a journalist.
- 11 votes
You don't even know if a "Sliver" is true, based on the article.
If you believe that a "Sliver" can make an article or a commentary, you "Must" give "FOX" the benefit of the doubt, right?
How about if you find a "Sliver" that is false, even if the rest "Is" true.
Are you really as open minded as you say?

my point was that it would be hard to imagine that cnn correspondents would fabricate such a story. now it is on cnn, so i guess that they feel the story has merit and is newsworthy. o'keefe may have issues, and should probably seek help.

Based on your response about a "sliver":
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-5303828-503544.html
"That played out this morning when CNN erroneously reported that the Coast Guard had fired on a small boat on the Potomac River...near where the president was commemorating the attack on the Pentagon," he said.
Orr said that "in response to the reporting, flights were stopped at Reagan National Airport, FBI agents went running out the door and security command centers around D.C. snapped to attention."
I'll take CNN with a grain of salt.
@ GA GUY:
My mind is always at attention. At "Ease" is so, um, un-informed?
greg
there will always be some mistakes made, that is true. however, making up news is not acceptable. i highly doubt that cnn made up this whole story. you can keep your head in the sand if you want to do so, but some of us are actually trying to get to the truth. do you support the tactics of james o'keefe? i can not support criminal tactics in order to get at anybody, no matter on which side of the aisle they sit

Your link to Media Research Center is laughable. Like a bunch of right wing flacks are going to provide an unbiased assessment of anything that doesn't fit the ultracon storyline.
The Media Research Center (MRC) is a conservative organization founded in 1987 by conservative activist L. Brent Bozzell. The organization asserts the assumption, in its mission statement, that "liberal bias in the media does exist and undermines traditional American values", so part of its purpose is to actively "neutralize the impact of liberal bias on the American political scene." MRC is widely characterized as being "conservative".

So tell us Greg, what part of this article isn't accurate?
What?
Your link
Not mine, the articles.
You are "Sober" right.
He's lucky this didn't work out. His other stuff, though inaccurate, had some political point, they at least purported to show something. This plan was less John Stewart than Ashton Kutcher, if he would have pulled it off, even most of the right would stop taking him seriously.
- 8 votes
Please do not underestimate the ability of some segment of the population to consciously choose to defy logic, rationality, and just plain ol' common sense. There are those that supported him after his ACORN hit was proven to be manipulative. There are those that supported him after he was given probation for entering a federal building under false pretenses. There are those that will continue to support him.
The line between entertainment (i.e. "Gotcha!") and journalism has been so successfully blurred, that many cannot tell the difference. Selective editing, misrepresentation, and even outright lies to the subject of the report are simply the modern and accepted way of conducting "journalism".
- 16 votes
...hoped to get CNN Investigative Correspondent Abbie Boudreau onto a boat filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session . . .
Yuck. And why? From douglasq's link above in #1.5:
It would seem as if O'Keefe actually thought Boudreau would not realize something bizarre was going on, on this lube-covered boat! In fact, the documents CNN obtained more or less demonstrate that O'Keefe had little more than contempt for Boudreau, constantly deriding her intelligence and ability, referring to her as a "bubble-headed-bleach-blonde." In reality, Boudreau has had a storied career as an investigative journalist. Prior to coming to CNN, she reported on a potentially calamitous design flaw in tires manufactured by the Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. Her story led to further investigations and a product recall. She basically saved peoples' lives as a result of her work.
He's a creep and a fraud. And as for his female co-worker that clued in Boudreau of the prank:

I took this to mean that early reports of the caper at Landrieu's office said that he was trying to plant listening devices. I remember it mentioned in early reports that electronic devices were found but later explained by 'O' Keefe as communication between 'O' Keefe and his partner. If there had been any he would have been subject to Federal Prosecution.

LOFL....so is it safe to assume that your lack of a direct response on the issue of assumptions...means you acknowledge your previous assertions about the accuracy of the article were...wait for it... entirely ass-inine?
The seeded article is an opinion piece about an incident that the author didn't witness or participate in firsthand. Consequently...all the author can do is make an assumption about the credibility of the information.
Maligning the seeder's honesty and integrity because YOU willfully misinterpreted the author's use of the word "assuming"...is either horrendously obtuse...or blatantly O'Keefe-esque in it's calculated dishonesty.

I was going to leave this alone but the more I thought about the situation the creepier it felt.
This guy has some dark twisted fixations that are just coming to light. Have a feeling that he's using "politics" as a cover to act out on his obsessions. It appears that he took great pains with all the little details of the room he had arranged. Got a sick gut feeling that he was getting off in his mind (also physically) with each and every detail of each and every one of them. He didn't have plans on seducing her or setting her up...she is too intelligent to have set foot in that room once she caught a glimpse of it and he knew that. No, what he had planned had nothing to do with exposing anyone in the media or doing anything for the betterment of his political party (that is if he even has a preference). Apparently he has been "simmering" for quite a few years and has wormed his way into a position of actually acting out his fantasies. Pretty dang sickening and dangerous acting out. He actually thought that he was safe under the cover of Fox and the GOP...found himself a nice safe little place to play. Put's the entire thing in a new light and if they don't step up and detach from him, publicly, they are just as sick as he is. I'm relieved that Boudreau was never touched.
