A new study of the drug sodium oxybate for the special sleep problems of fibromyalgia (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) really caught my attention for several reasons:
The 2 conditions were studied together.
It ties our sleep abnormalities to narcolepsy.
It was pretty darned successful.

FMS and ME/CFS are strikingly similar, and so far the medical community is torn as to whether they're completely separate, closely related, or variations of the same condition. Regardless, studies have shown that we have the same problems with sleep.

Not recent but in not so distant past Mayo clinic getting good outcomes with these very difficult conditions....I also urge folks to inquire into assessment at Mayo pain clinic...In my nursing practice I have seen Mayo help the most difficult cases and after years working with patients with these syndromes I will go back and read your article in full and check out and pray for excellent hope and outcomes with this drug sodium oxybate...What I have seen after case managing many cases like this for leading insurers over the years as RN case manager is that no two cases seem very similar in the same fashion say one person responds to one antidepresent and not another ...It often takes many tries and modalities and to find the solution can seem like eternity....It took 3 yrs before I beat it and myofascial trigger point and accupuncture was my winning combo finally and feldenkrais therapy....Dont give up these syndromes can be beat.....Also again I urge folks to consider a trip to Mayo if need be and the book Mayo and chronic pain management ....And advocate for more and more research like this study and lets keep the faith...
