PHOENIX, AZ - July 30 - Roxana Orell, a lawyer and executive officer with the National Lawyers Guild (NLG), was arrested Thursday in Phoenix while acting as an NLG Legal Observer® for a group of individuals protesting the immigration policies of Sheriff Arpaio. Observers of the arrest indicated that Sheriff's Deputies appeared to target Orell, who was standing behind the crowd and videotaping the arrest of Sunita Patel, another Legal Observer.

"The arrest of the Guild Legal Observers is just a continuation of Arpaio's campaign of harassment," said Carol Sobel, co-chair of the Guild's Mass Defense Committee. "Apparently, Arpaio thinks that if he arrests the Legal Observers, no one will be there to witness his unlawful actions. We have been arrested, shot with projectiles, hit with batons and pepper-sprayed at protests from Washington, D.C. to Miami to Los Angeles and we are still here to document misconduct."

Sheriff Arpaio had announced he would conduct sweeps as part of his campaign to target and terrorize immigrant neighborhoods, regardless of the federal court’s injunction issued the prior day against SB 1070.

Sheriff Joe is only enforcing the Laws of the State of Arizona, which the People of Arizona elected him to do (4times). He is not as you put it "Terrorizing" anyone, if the Illegals don't want to be caught then they should leave. As far as I have hear no one forced them to come here and they are free to leave at any time.

As for some of the Legal Hispanic's that think they are better than the rest of the American citizens and should not have to show their ID if stopped,,Like the rest of the American people, well thats to bad for them. They need to wake up and relize they are no better than the rest of us, and get on with being a American if that is what they want, if not they can go back to where they came from.

People that speak about declaring War on America should go to jail ! Like New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams, a first-generation Caribbean-American, told the crowd: "We won a slight battle in Arizona, we've got to continue with the war."

How can you stand up for Sheriff Arpaio, who is now breaking the law, and who has the highest death rate in his jail of any jail in the country? This man is not a Sheriff, he is a terrorist!

I really hate to say this but they arrested some of those people because they were blocking the roads and no one could get through. As for the members of NLG that were yanked out of the crowd I can't say. Unless they were blocking an entrance or a roadway I can't imagine any charges would stick.
