The chemtrail conspiracy theory began to circulate in 1996 when the United States Air Force (USAF) was accused of "spraying the US population with mysterious substances" from aircraft "generating unusual contrail patterns".

The chemtrail conspiracy theory holds that some contrails are actually chemicals or biological agents deliberately sprayed at high altitudes for a purpose undisclosed to the general public.Versions of the chemtrail conspiracy theory circulating on the internet and radio talk shows theorize that the activity is directed by government officials. As a result, federal agencies have received thousands of complaints from people who have demanded an explanation. The existence of chemtrails has been repeatedly denied by government agencies and scientists around the world.

According to a United States Air Force contrail fact sheet, contrails, or condensation trails, are "streaks of condensed water vapor created in the air by an airplane or rocket at high altitudes." These condensation trails are the result of normal emissions of water vapor from piston engines and jet engines at high altitudes in which the water vapor condenses into a visible cloud. Contrails are formed when hot humid air from the engines mix with, and are cooled by, the colder surrounding air. (The mixing is a result of turbulence generated by the jet engine exhaust). The rate at which contrails dissipate is entirely dependent upon weather conditions and altitude. If the atmosphere is near saturation, the contrail may exist for some time. Conversely, if the atmosphere is dry, the contrail will dissipate quickly.

Government agencies and experts on atmospheric phenomena deny the existence of chemtrails, asserting that the characteristics attributed to them are simply features of contrails responding differently in diverse conditions in terms of the sunlight, temperature, horizontal and vertical wind shear, and humidity levels present at the aircraft's altitude.

McSpocky - According to a United States Air Force contrail fact sheet, contrails, or condensation trails, are "streaks of condensed water vapor created in the air by an airplane or rocket at high altitudes.

Conveniently left out all other components of jet fuel exhaust.

The impact of aviation on the atmosphere is under way through the complex of interconnected processes.
In present, there are no any standard limitations for the concentrations of gaseous and particulate
pollutants emitted by aircraft engines at cruise altitudes. Nevertheless, it is believed that emissions of
different gaseous species and aerosols by aviation engines are of reverence to the impact of aviation on
atmospheric chemistry, ozone depletion, and climate [1-3]. Numerous model investigations showed that
gaseous species, mainly NOx, HOx, COx, SOx, organics, emitted from aircraft engine as well as
combustion and newly formed in the exhaust plume aerosols may influence significantly the total ozone
concentration, cloudiness, Earth's radiation budget, and climate.

According to the ICAO data, by 2050, a five-tenfold increase in the intensity of commercial flights is
expected [2]. During the accumulation of soot particles in the troposphere owing to an increase in fuel
consumption by aviation, the region covered with contrails is also increased. According to the prognosis
given in [46], this region will be increased from 0.06 (1992) to 0.23% (2050), and, accordingly, the
radiation effect of contrails will be increased by a factor of four

In the 1950s and 1960s, the U.S. and Soviet biological weapons programs developed techniques to aerosolize Y. pestis. Aerosol dissemination of bacteria would cause a primary pneumonic plague outbreak in the exposed population, an otherwise uncommon, highly lethal, and contagious form of plague.

The first large-scale aerosol vulnerability test was
conducted in the San Francisco Bay area in September
1950, using two species of bacteria (Bacillus
globigii and Serratia marcescens) and fluorescent
    particles.

Well you caught my attention. I just thought they were smoke from jets that was left behind, but this well now I am intrigued.

They are just trails comprised of moisture or ice crystals. The myth is that they are made up of chemicals that the government is dropping on us. That is just myth, not fact. This myth has been sporadically popping up since the 1990s.

This is one of my favorite Chemtrail Conspiracy theories: When The Army Owns The Weather - Chemtrails & HAARP

Bear in mind, however, that at the time these experiments were said to have begun, Global Cooling was the climate change of choice: The Cooling World

Like most conspiracy theories, they are usually propagated by people have have no understanding of how things work.

For Christ's sake, they aren't "chem trails." they are Sirius clouds formed by ice crystals that come from the exhaust of jets high in the atmosphere. You should be worried about the rapid increase in their formation because water isn't the only thing that comes from the combustion of jet fuel.

Of course, that is what the article is saying. The is another article on the vine promoting the chemtrail conspiracy. The article is a rebuttal.

Yes, I get pissed sometimes, I have been observing jet trails since I was a kid, the only thing I notice today is that there are way too many of them, some days even in the summer they fill the sky and in the winter they cause "sun dogs." Chem-trails? of course they are chem-trails, water vapor (H20) and C02; It isn't good, it isn't natural and it is killing the planet; just wait until they start adding sulfur dioxide to the fuel to counteract AGW. Men do one stupid thing only to counteract it with another. Sorry McSpocky, I needed to vent, they aren't a conspiracy, just part of a mistake called man.
